Portici
Portici is a nice and quiet area south of the downtown, it’s full of villas, gardens, and it’s always safe to walk by, differently from Naples downtown. Just few meters from the hostel, in Via Università, there’s the Royal Palace with its huge botanical garden: once it was used by the king for holidays, now it’s a part of Naples University. Continuing in the same street, after the Royal Palace, you’ll get to Herculaneum ruins site and the place where buses for the Vesuvius leave.
At the end of Corso Umberto, behind the train station, you’ll find the dock, and continuing on the left, some nice bars and the Portici beach.
Portici is also full of amusing attractions for the night: apart from the Fabric Club, one of the biggest and liveliest Music Club of Campania Region, there are many open air bars in the dock area, and lots of pizzerias and restaurants just a few steps from the hostel.

How to get to Ischia or Procida Island?
First, you’ve to reach Naples Central Station by any of the two undergrounds (Circumvesuviana direction Naples or Trenitalia direction Naples), then take the bus line 3s or 1 that both have a stop in front of the dock. From there leave ferries and hydrofoils for the Naples gulf islands and also for Sicily, Sardinia...

How to get to the Amalfi Coast?
You’ve to take the Circumvesuviana train, direction Sorrento, stop in Sorrento (last stop) then take a bus for Amalfi, Positano, Ravello… (about 1 hour, it depends on where do you want to stop).

How to get to the Vesuvius?
First get to Ercolano by feet or with the Circumvesuviana train, then take a bus for the Vesuvius. Consider a 50min trip for the bus, so it’s better to reserve an half day for visiting the Vesuvius. There are buses also from Pompei if you prefer. Generally is convenient to take the bus from Ercolano, visit the Vesuvius, come back with the bus for Pompei and visit also the Pompei ruins in the same day.
There are many naturalistic paths you can do on the Vesuvius! Take a look to the website:

How to get to Naples Downtown?
Take the underground train from the "Portici-Ercolano" station (the seaside station, down Corso Umberto), you can stop in Piazza Garibaldi - Central Station of Naples and go by feet from there, or continue with the underground line called "Linea 2" till "Cavour" stop (for the National Museum), till "Montesanto" stop (for Historical Centre) or till "Mergellina" stop (for seaside walking and bars). Some trains from Portici arrive straight in downtown Naples without the need of changing the train.
If you plan to come back after 11pm, you can use the 440 night bus that covers almost all the centre of Naples till Brin Autopark terminus, in which is safer to wait instead of the central station, then take the 455 or 457 night buses from Brin Autopark to Piazza San Ciro.
Pay particular attention in Naples downtown, especially around the Central Station and in buses: don’t wear or show valuable objects (necklaces, rings, clocks, cameras…), have your day backpack in front of you instead than on your back, don’t buy anything from men on the road that want to sell you cameras or mobiles at very cheap price: you’ll find a brick or a salt pack in the box.

How to get to the beach?

For bigger beaches you can also take the Circumvesuviana train, direction Sorrento, and get off at one of the stops before Sorrento, like Vico Equense, Meta, or Sorrento itself. Refer to this map of the Circumvesuviana line.
In the beaches there are ever free spots.
